Shanjen  born 4/24/96 passed 8/15/2010

AKA: Shanny, Eeyore, Jen

This little girl is such a hoot.  Shanjen loves to just lay outside around the pool.  She has fallen in the pool so many times because she loves to be chased around it.  This was the only way I could get her to come inside. Because Shanjen's sight is not so great she has to walk really close to the edge of the pool and when she starts to run, kerplunk,,,in she goes.  You may notice her coat was shaved because her  previous was allergic to the fur.  Three months later her coat is finally back.  Shanjen is not a player.  She occasionally likes to chase toys.  Her favorite pass time seems to be sleeping.  Shanjen also LOVES to chase the water when hosing down the patio.  She barks like a maniac and attacks the water coming out the hose.  This behavior has resulted in a few extra dunks in the hot tub because she gets too close.

6/2008  Poor Shanny has been having some difficulty with her breathing and some constipation.  A visit to the vet and some bloodwork showed out Shanny has some serious pancreatitis.  Her food was changed and more bloodwork was done.  A month after her diet was changed her number improved greatly, but she is still breathing hard and open mouthed.  In August we changed her to a bland diet.  She will get more bloodwork in a couple of weeks and hopefully it will be better

7/2010 Took Shanny in for an exam and some blood work to check her pancreatitis status.  She has also been coughing excessively   She sounded like she was coughing up a lung.  Well it was discovered her teeth were pretty bad.  Her poor little heart is also enlarged,  She was put on an ACE inhibitor, which made her coughing worse.  It was felt that her poor teeth and the plaque could be causing some of the coughing issues.  So I took her in for a rather risky surgery because of her age and heart condition.  Poor Shan took sometime coming out of the anesthetic.  When she came to me she looked like a really snockered drunk.  When she came home she was still very drowsy so I put her in her crate where she laid, looking so pathetic and drugged up.  The next day she was so much improved, despite the warning she may be sore and out of sorts for several days.  She is no longer coughing, her hearing, which was pretty bad has improved and her appetite is great.  It no longer takes her 15 minutes to eat 1/4 of food.  I have a great vet works miracles with my little firkids.

Unfortunately poor Shanny started to get fluid buildup in her lungs and her breathing became very labored.  I rushed her to the local Pima Vet clinic & Emergency Services.  Although the care was great, their treatment of the pet owner left a lot to be desired.  Because of their concern regarding Shanny's heart they basically would not let me see her. On 8/15/2010 they were trying to ween Shanny off the oxygen and 15 minutes later Shanny started showing signs of distress,  By the time they put her back in her cage, she passed...alone.  I never got to say goodbye.

Shan, you were a very special little girl to me.  You were so gentle and laid back.  Nothing ever ruffled you, unless it was water shooting out of the hose.  You would sleep on your sling type bed and put your little nose right on the edge of it.  This was why we called you "Little Eeyore".  The look on your sweet face always seemed to "say I'mmm soo Happy" while looking depressed, just like Eeyore..  I loved holding you and having you throw your head on my shoulder.  My heart melted.  I am so sorry my dear little angel that I could not be there when you sipped from this earth.  They would not let me stay with you while you were in the hospital, but you were in my heart and thoughts every minute little girl.  Someday we will be together again,. but until then you will always be holding on to my heart

Shanny my love, I am so sorry I could not be there for you in your final hours.  I adore you my little one, and you will always be a huge part of my heart.  God rest your gentle soul
